The Art Of Tablescapes: Part 1

If you’ve ever been to a wedding or an elaborate party, you’ll always find wonderfully decorated tables. It not only brings vibrancy to the room but it also helps set the scene and theme of the event. It’s more than just matching plates and pretty flowers. Let us take a quick look into the art of tablescaping.

There are many elements that go into setting a beautiful table. First, you must keep the theme of your occasion in mind. Is it Thanksgiving, a birthday, Easter, or something else? Whatever it may be, try to envision what that event looks like. What are the colors that reflect the theme and how can you incorporate them into the table setting?

It’s best to start with a blank canvas so to speak. Always start with a clean and completely empty table. Start with your base, a tablecloth. This may be printed or plain, it’s up to you and how you will bring all the elements together. If you’re not quite sure, then start with just a plain base. If you are more experimental you can add a second layer such as another tablecloth but smaller and laid in the opposite direction of the first layer. For example, if you placed a white tablecloth first on a rectangular table, you may place a colored or printed smaller tablecloth on top. However, instead of following the horizontal line of the table, place it to go vertically or across. This way you get to see both colors or prints in action. If you want something a little more understated then you can also opt for a table runner which can add a touch of elegance. If you’ve decided to go with a plain base color, you may add color or texture through your placemats and coasters. Placemats as well as coasters can be found in all kinds of shapes and sizes with many different designs. You can have a little fun when it comes to this.
