SotoGrande Hotel Baguio

A new hotel has just risen in the heart of the country’s renowned summer capital under the brand of SotoGrande Hotel.

SotoGrande Hotel Baguio promises a modern retreat for guests craving for hotel comforts and proximity to the city’s landmarks, as it is located along Leonard Wood Road, a few meters away from Teacher’s Camp and walking distance to the Botanical Garden, SM Baguio and Session Road.

This 188-room hotel is perfectly suited for big groups and corporate conventions, with spacious lounge and dining areas that can fit over a hundred, as well as, a state-of-the-art Function Hall on the ground floor.

Among SotoGrande’s four room types, such as One Bedroom Suite with two double beds, Deluxe Queen with one queen bed, Deluxe Corner with one queen bed and a view of the city’s landscape, and Superior Double Room with two double beds, this writer was invited to experience the last room type during its grand opening last February 23rd.

Like in all rooms, there is a wooden headboard adorned with an Ifugao pattern, symbolic of the Baguio’s original tribe, a quaint bedside table with a drawer and light switches to provide storage space and lighting access, a long wooden desk, a mini refrigerator, tea and coffee making set, a smart LED screen, a luggage bench with a spacious compartment below it, a wardrobe cabinet, which includes hangers and two pairs of bedroom slippers, shelves for storing shoes, a full length mirror against the wall, and an en suite bathroom with a tub, rain shower head, toilet with bidet, a big mirror and complete toiletries set.

Notwithstanding utter comfort and natural lighting through the glass door panel of the bedroom balcony, is a heated swimming pool at the ground floor patio, a gym next to the Function Hall, plus the gastronomic surprises at the grand dining room courtesy of Enderun Colleges Alumni, Executive Chef Edmond Dannug.

Incidentally, the daily in-house breakfast buffet that grace the clean and well-lit buffet area from 6am till 10am doles out Filipino breakfast viands, fresh seasonal fruits, sweet and savory gourmet pastries, Arroz Caldo (rice porridge), salad ensemble, and warm delicacies, like Champorado (sweet rice porridge) and Taho (tofu) heightened by Baguio’s local produces, strawberry and ube jam deserves to be relished languidly and enjoyed at a good amount of time.

In the midst of SotoGrande Hotel’s grand opening ceremonies, which were celebrated with a community dance by the Baguio Cultural Dancers and the cutting of the ribbon by Chef Thomas Wenger of Enderun Hotels, Sta. Lucia Land, Inc.’s top executives, SotoGrande Baguio’s department heads, and Congressman of Baguio, Rep. Marquez, there was a profusion of cocktails and artisan canapes served at the lounge bar and a grand buffet of Chef Edmond’s specialties, including Beef Lasagna, Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin, Roasted Herbed Chicken, aided by the chef’s talented staff, who also gave an engaging dance offering of freshly roasted suckling pig, locally known as Lechon.

Whilst all-day dining of a la carte dishes is available everyday, not only for in-house guests, but also for walk-ins, everyone can thus discover SotoGrande Hotel Baguio’s world class hospitality any time.
