Some Unwritten Rules You Need To Know When Traveling Abroad

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

That was what Mark Twain, a famous American novelist and a traveler, too, said. Well, he wasn’t alone in this thinking. Sir Ernest Shackleton also said, “It is in our nature to explore, to reach out into the unknown. The only true failure would be not to explore at all.”

I also like what the famous Anthony Bourdain said. “Travel isn’t always pretty,” he pointed out. “It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

Which is why I love to travel also. Now, let me share some of the things you need to know when you are traveling abroad. Be sure to keep these in mind:

Check your passport and/or visa requirements.

If you are traveling to another country, be sure to check your passport first. In addition, check if your destination requires a visa (just like the United States, European countries, and Australia). Before booking a flight, see to it that your passport has at least six-month validity before the actual date of your departure. If your passport has already expired, renew it months before the flight to avoid delays on your scheduled international trip. If the country you are visiting requires a visa, you need to apply for one before buying your ticket. “You will need both passport and visa to board your flight,” Traveloka Explore states.
