Oftentimes, part of our job in the hospitality industry is to look after our guests and keep them interested. A large audience of people all staring at us can sometimes be quite daunting. However, with just a little practice - we can overcome our fears.
What me? Go up the stage and speak before a group of strangers? I don’t know how to speak in public, and I’ll never learn how! Is that what you say?
It is quite amazing that many people shudder at public speaking. Curiously enough, public speaking does not necessarily imply – or require a mass audience. Listen to the words of Terry McCann, former executive director of Toastmaster International: “Most of our members throughout the world don’t aspire to greatness on the platform. Their problem, generally, is in talking to groups of five or ten people. A business executive, a supervisor in the factory, a section worker in an office – all can increase their effectiveness through better public speaking. The opportunities are limitless.”
