If someone says that you have a big fat tummy, you may burst into anger. However, upon realizing that it refers to a restaurant, you might reconsider their initial response. What prompted the owner to choose such a name for the establishment? Could it potentially deter patrons from visiting?
“It’s a complete opposite of myself,” explained Kristoffer “Toffer” U. Tan, the 38-year-old owner of the restaurant. “During our brainstorming sessions regarding the restaurant’s name, numerous options were proposed, yet those three words consistently resonated with me.”
The term “big” signifies size, while “fat” is often viewed negatively among Filipinos today. “Tummy” refers to your stomach. When these elements are combined, they form the name Big Fat Tummy, and with the addition of Steak and Seafood Restaurant, one of the culinary hotspots in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
The restaurant’s name is a direct reflection of the culinary experience it aims to provide its patrons. “Our goal is for customers to leave completely satisfied with the meals they have enjoyed here,” Tan said.
