To say that Vic Alcuaz is an icon in the service industry would be an understatement. Vic has been instrumental in developing and shaping the careers of many luminaries in the Philippine hospitality industry, including those who are featured in this book. Tangible proof is that this is his second book about our hospitality superstars.
Vic began his career in the service industry through our flagship carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL), where he perfected the art of training the cabin crew as PAL’s Training and Audio Visual Officer. He worked for 10 years with PAL before being invited to join Hyatt Regency Manila as its Human Resources Director. When the first Shangri-La Hotel opened in the country, Vic became its opening Human Resources Director.
He made a decision to strike out on his own as an independent hospitality consultant after his HR stint at the Edsa Shangri-La. As an HR consultant, he built a solid reputation doing pre-opening work for new luxury hotels, resorts, and high-end restaurants, as well as executive-level head hunting services for the same clientele. His roster of clients includes prestigious local hospitality brands and international chains.
Vic holds the distinction of being a three-time President of the Association of Human Resources Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM).
During his first term as President, he initiated the Mabuhay Awards, which honors the outstanding men and women in the hospitality industry in four categories: Front of the House, Heart of the House, Outstanding Supervisor, and Outstanding Manager of the Year. Now in their 26th year, the Mabuhay Awards are considered to be the Oscars of the hospitality industry.
Vic owns Cafe Inggo 1587 located inside the premises of the Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City which has consistently been honored with the Travellers’ Choice Award in 2021, 2022 and 2023 by the largest travel portal in the world, TripAdvisor.’
Because of all his accomplishments in the hospitality industry, Vic is a much sought after lecturer and speaker for schools, colleges, and universities offering HRM, Culinary and Tourism courses.
Besides Hospitality Superstars Book 1 and Book 11, Vic was a co-author of another book entitled ‘Multi-cultural Diversity in the Workplace for the Tourism Professional’ in 2020 for Rex Publishing House.
Aside from the hospitality industry, Vic also indulges in another pursuit. He has been producing overseas concerts since 1988. He has brought outstanding local musical performers and celebrities to concert tours all over Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the Americas’ so that they could entertain our overseas Filipino workers. He believes that the work he does for both the hospitality and entertainment industries complement each other. Both industries cater to providing people – especially those who are away from home - with comfort, ease, memorable, and fun experiences.
