About Giuseppe
Born in Italy’s autonomous region of Sardinia, Giuseppe grew up in Lanusei, a scenic town on the East Coast. As one of ten children raised in a large family, authentic Italian food was always at the heart of our family culture.
Giuseppe graduated from catering school in the 1960s, which provided the early foundations for an international career in hospitality.
After learning his trade in senior catering positions in Sardinia, Rome, Milano, and Switzerland, Giuseppe moved to the UK in 1974 to further pursue his passion for Italian cooking. He gained experience in Italian restaurants across London and Southampton. In 1977, he settled in Portsmouth and opened the famously known “ Pizza House” in Hilsea.
Having earned a reputation on the South Coast as the “place to be seen,” the Italian Restaurant was often frequented by celebrities from all walks of life.
Having served famous sports stars such as George Best, Harry Redknapp, Peter Crouch, David James, and the likes of TV’s Gabby Roslin and Fred Dinage, the family-run Italian restaurant was well known and loved by many. It can also boast a visit from former Prime Minister David Cameron and, of course, not to forget Ferrari’s 5 time ‘Le Mans’ winner and Scuderia driver Derek Bell.
Giuseppe’s success was further acknowledged when he was awarded the “Key to the City” from his home in Sardinia.
After 39 successful years, Giuseppe retired, but his lifelong passion for Italian cooking and providing a customer experience like no other soon led him out of retirement. In 2017 Giuseppe’s Italian Restorante was born.
Having found the perfect location in the heart of Southsea, Giuseppe’s Italian Ristorante is at the entrance to Southsea’s historic Castle Road. With views overlooking the Common and the seafront, the building has a history of serving Portsmouth residents and visitors dating back to 1762.
The well-considered renovation boasts an authentic, spacious, and cozy interior to enjoy fantastic Italian food and a fun atmosphere for all occasions.
